Lady Tigers finish with a flurry to grind up Granger

Spikers host 5th annual tournament this weekend

Reporter/Cliff Dungan The Rockdale Lady Tigers finished up with a flourish in sweeping up Granger 25-21, 25-15, 25-15 Tuesday night at Tiger Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Lady Tigers improved to 6-8 on the season.

Six-foot senior middle blocker Shelby Evans patrolled the middle with 16 kills and nine digs.

Senior Morgan Laughlin scrapped up 15 digs, while Samantha Muston chipped in three kills.

Rockdale is hosting its 5th annual volleyball tournament at Tiger Gym. Pool play begins at 11 a.m. on Thursday and then tournament play at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The championship game is set for 2 p.m. Saturday.

Cedar Creek Tournament

The Lady Tigers went 2-3 in the Bastrop Cedar Creek Tournament, posting victories over Thrall 22-25, 25-20, 25-24 and Stockdale 25-18, 25-15.

Rockdale fell to Victoria East 25-16, 25-14, Smithville 25-10, 25-22 and Killeen 25-15, 25-19.

Against Thrall, Evans pounded out 13 kills with six blocks. Dae Dae Robertson added 10 kills, while Amanda Boyd had 13 assists and 12 digs, Laughlin 13 digs and Joli Carpenter 11 digs.

In the Stockdale contest, Evans produced nine digs, five kills and two blocks.

Amanda Boyd chipped in six assists and two service aces, Robertson had four kills and Carpenter six assists.

In the tournament opening loss to Victoria East, Evans supplied seven digs, three blocks and three kills.

Boyd manuvered for five digs, four assists and two aces. Laughlin added 12 digs.

In the loss to Smithville, Evans hammered out six kills, six digs and two blocks. Laughlin chipped in seven digs.

In the loss to Killeen, Evans stroked six kills and four blocks.

Laughl in complemented Evans with nine digs and Robertson five kills.

Tiger Tourney

The Lady Tigers are hosting their 5th annual tournament, which begins Thursday at 11 a.m. with pool play. Tournament play begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Teams include Cameron, Thorndale, Thral l , Rogers Georgetown Gateway, Lampasas and Austin Travis.

Championship match is scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
