Property bond issue topic for MDD session

Issuance of $330,000 on sales and use tax bonds will be the main topic of action when the Rockdale Municipal Development District (MDD) meets in a called session at noon Friday in the MDD office, 114 East Cameron.

Bonds would be earmarked for a property purchase if approved by the city council.

Also Friday, the MDD will consider taking action on opening an account at Classic Bank to separate funds designated for the splash park, name signees for that fund and possibly take action on MDD director vacancies.

County set for action on tax rate and budget

CAMERON—Milam County commissioners will vote on the 2013-14 budget and tax rate when they meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Monday in the county courthouse.

The second of two public hearings on the new budget was to have been held at 9 a.m. Wednesday (Sept. 4).

A three-cent tax increase, from 60 to 63 cents, is proposed.

Market Day blending with garage sale effort

Saturday is technically the fall Market Day in Rockdale, but it also falls in the middle of the town’s big antique fair-citywide garage sale weekend.

There will be the usual Market Day activity at Tisket A Tasket and Antique Queens, incorporated into the big weekend.

Market Day is a quarterly effort to promote Rockdale businesses.

Milano ISD adopts $1.23 tax rate for 2013-2014

MILANO—Milano ISD trustees adopted a $1.23 per $100 of valuation tax rate at their regular meeting on Monday at the MHS library, according to Supt. Robert Westbrook.

A public hearing on the budget and tax rate was held prior to the regular session of the board.

The board set the district’s maintenance and operations tax rate at $1.04 per $100 of valuation and set the Interest and Sinking tax rate at $0.19 per $100 of valuation, giving the district a total tax rate of $1.23 per $100 of valuation.

The rate is an increase from last year’s of $1.21 per $100 of valuation.

The board also approved the creation of a facilities committee for the district.

Milano city council set to meet on Tuesday

MILANO— City council members in Milano will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the town’s civic center for their regular meeting.

Agenda items include a second reading of an ordinance establishing regulations to prevent sexually oriented businesses within the city limits, a report from substandard and dangerous building and structures committee chair Joe Beaty and the possible purchase of a hot water heater for the Milano Community Center.
