Services for Pearl Allyne Newman, 91, of Thorndale, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 17 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale with Rev. Mel Swoyer officiating. Burial will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in the Detmold Communi ty near Thorndale.
Visitation was to be held form 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 at Providence Funeral Home in Taylor.
Mrs. Newman died Monday, April 14, 2014.
She was born June 24, 1922 in the Arkansas Community near Thorndale to Oscar and Adele (Schultz) Melde.
She married Frank “Pa” Newman, Jr. on May 7, 1940.
Mrs. Newman was a founding and lifelong member of the Thorndale VFW Post 4009 Auxiliary and worked behind the county at Butts Dry Goods in Thorndale for many years.
She enjoyed nothing more than spending time with her family and friends and hosting family get-togethers. She had a terrific sense of humor, a contagious laugh and a smile that would light up the room.
Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her husband Frank Newman Jr., her parents, daughter Rita Jane Becker and son-inlaw Leon Barron.
Survivors are daughter Judy Brown of Thorndale; sister Helen Ferrell and husband George of Charleston, West Virginia; grandchildren Jeff Barron and wife Cheryl and Marla Davis and wife Chris, all of Thorndale, Randa Becker and husband Koen of Belgium, Russell Becker and wife DeLea of Austin; great-grandchildren Kassie Bolton and husband Michael of Pasadena, Mallory Keeling and husband Chad of Bay City, Jacob Barron and Logan Davis, of Thorndale, Hiatt and Crockett Becker of Austin, Lars and Lene Van Den Heuvel of Belgium; also great-great grandchildren Caleb Keeling of Bay City; sister-in-laws Margie Olbrich and Frances Hilton, both of Thorndale.
Pallbearers will be James Lee Hilton, Frankie Hilton, Charles Olbrich, Les Goerdel, Jeff Muegge and Kevin Barchenger.
Honorary pallbearers will be Newton Butts, Max Thiele, Bob Hegar, Elmore Lincoln, Pat Kratz and members of the Thorndale VFW Post 4009 Auxiliary.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in Thorndale.
